How does an artist or curator imagine the audience in their work? Which perspectives are useful in explaining the changing roles of the audience that have occurred in the art field? Combining artistic and curatorial practice with film theory of viewing positions, the publication sets out a new interdisciplinary discourse. Imagining the Audience offers an unusual and intimate glimpse at the ideas behind the work of both the artist and the curator concerning the role of the audience.
Since the book was first published in 2012 it has been a source of inspiration and dialogue in the field of art, curating and performance and has served as course literature in education within these fields. This e-book makes the material available in a new form and for a new readership.
Imaging the Audience was produced as a collaboration between MAP, Mobile Art Production (a context specific platform for new work) and the Swedish Exhibition Agency.
