Screening Literature: Acts of Transformation in Contemporary Film and Video Installation Art examines different ways in which literary works have been staged and transformed in visual art during recent decades. Focusing on artworks by Kutlug Ataman, Gerard Byrne, Stan Douglas and Fiona Tan, this book explores the role of literature in relation to cultural memory - as a place where narrative conventions are negotiated, and where cultural space is mediated and constructed. Drawing on theories from the fields of intertextuality, intermediality, adaptation studies and artistic appropriation, transformation is discussed as an important element in our culture.
Tanja von Dahlern received her PhD from Uppsala University. This book is based on her doctoral thesis.
